An employee of major company came to us with his wife. He was very unhappy with his job - it was causing him so much stress that it was affecting his quality of life. He had planned on working to age 65, but was thinking that he might not make it that long given his current status. They had put all three of their children through school, so all they had left on the agenda was a retirement filled with travel. He wondered if he could turn in his notice early and wave "goodbye" to stress.

We created a financial goal plan to figure out if he could retire early. With the plan in place, our team tried out various strategies that included taking Social Security early, electing early distribution from their IRA accounts, changing their overall investment mixes, reducing their expenses, decreasing their retirement income distribution amounts and changing travel goals.

After several permutations and some minor adjustments, we determined that they had saved enough to allow him to stop working. Our firm took over the management of their investments and maintained their annual plan and budget. It was their goal not to deal with investments in retirement - their focus is on travel and life.
